Biography

Joseph E. Stiglitz es un reputado economista, ganador del Premio Nobel de Economía (2001). se licenció en el Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) en 1967 y consiguió su cátedra en Yale en 1970, Ha dictado clases en Princeton, Stanford o el propio MIT y fue Fellow de la Oxford Business School. Actualmente, es profesor de Economía y Finanzas en la Universidad de Columbia, en Nueva York.

Fue miembro del Consejo de Asesores Económicos del presidente Clinton y Chairman de la CEA entre los 1993 y 1995. Asimismo, fue vicepresidente del Banco Mundial desde 1997 hasta 2000, donde comprobó «de primera mano el efecto devastador que la globalización puede tener sobre los países en desarrollo, y especialmente sobre los pobres de esos países”.

Joseph Stiglitz es uno de los responsables de las reglas que rigen la economía de hoy en día y precursor de lo que conocemos como Economía de la Información, elaborando estudios continuamente acerca de fallos en los mercados originados por las asimetrías de la información, ha conseguido guiar las políticas de intervención de los principales países desarrollados.

Su libro, El Malestar en la Globalización (Ed. Taurus), ha sido traducido a más de 20 idiomas convirtiéndose en un bestseller allí donde es publicado.
